The Trekker's Dilemma -
Capturing the View, Losing the Grip

Captured, But Compromised
Trekkers and hikers often find their hands occupied with smartphones for taking photos, which interrupts movement and can reduce safety. The desire to document the journey conflicts with the need to keep hands free for balance, navigation, and pole use—creating a clear opportunity for hands-free, wearable photo/video capture solutions.
90%
of trekkers take photos on the trail
A survey conducted by The Trek (a leading hiking publication) shows that over 90% of long-distance hikers carry smartphones primarily for navigation and photography.
85%
of hikers use smartphones as their primary camera
According to a 2022 Outdoor Foundation report, more than 85% of hikers use smartphones as their primary camera, due to convenience and weight considerations.
70%
of users paused their activity tracking during hiking sessions
Garmin user behavior data from 2021 found that over 70% of users paused their activity tracking during hiking sessions, most commonly to capture scenery.
Increased risk of accidents
when multitasking
A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2020) found that mobile phone usage while walking on trails increases the risk of tripping and missteps by 61%, particularly on uneven terrain. This supports the point that hands occupied by phones or cameras can compromise safety.
